Cultural Exchange between FBSB UNY and AUE Japan brings special impression

The Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture conducted a cultural exchange with Aichi University of Education - Japan. The activity took place from March 15-19, 2024 in Yogyakarta. A total 16 students from AUE and accompanied by two professors. On Friday morning, March 15, 2024, they arrived at YIA Airport and went straight to the FBSB UNY campus.

The official welcome was held in the Seminar Room 3rd floor of the Muhammad Yamin building (PLA) FBSB UNY, and continued with a batik workshop. The students seemed very enthusiastic when stratching the 'malam' (batik wax) using 'canting' following the pattern they had made before. In the afternoon, they also felt the euphoria of the month Ramadan by hunting 'takjil' in the Lembah UGM area.

The next day, AUE students attended dance and musik workshops. During the introduction of Indonesian culture, studets were introduced to the Jathilan culture, trying to dance complete with braided horse properties. Furthermore, during the musik workshop, students learned to play angklung musical instruments.

    

In addition, AUE students also conducted cultural tours by seeing Ramayana performances at Prambanan Temple, visiting the largest Buddhist building site in the world, namely Borobudur Temple, enjoying the nuances of souvenir shopping in the Malioboro area.

FBSB UNY students also received additional material from guest lecturers delivered by Prof. Yoshitaka Kozuka and Prof. Kazuhiro Doki. Then it was closed with friendly activities and iftar together at one of the cultural restaurants in the scope of the Yogyakarta Palace. On this occation, AUE also gave souvenirs in the form of Tenugui which has a long historical value in Japan. In addition, one of the AUE student repesentatives, Daichi Naruto, said that cultural exchange activities while in Indonesia were truly a special experience that would not be forgotten. Before returning to Japan, AUE studetns took the time to enjoy the beauty of the beach in the Kulon Progo area.  (SE, AM)
